Tonight, Anh and I are testing the waters with a real baby sitter. As in, not Aunt Nguyen! Gasp! Yep, a real sitter who unlike Aunt Nguyen will expect $$$ in addition to her thank you at the end of the night. This is ground-breaking stuff, I tell you. The boys have stayed with a sitter a few times before, but always when we were out of town visiting friends. This is the first time Anh and I have actually booked a sitter for them.
We don't have grand plans this evening. We'll be meeting up with some friends for wine tasting and dinner. Basically, it's just a few hours away from the boys to test their ability to scare the new sitter out of future bookings. Tonight really is a test for next weekend when we plan to attend a friend's rockin' BBQ. I say "rockin" because our friend is in a band, and of course, they will be the evening's entertainment. So, the sitter will get a little preview this evening of what's in store for her next weekend on a much grander scale. Let's hope she agrees to come back!
As a little side note, Jax seems a bit worried about how things will go tonight. We explained to him yesterday that we would be going out for a bit and that instead of Aunt Nguyen we were going to have a new lady come over to look after him and Baylor. Jax looked confused and asked, "Who is it?" Anh explained that Sara (one of our employees) was going to come over with her roommate, Cassie, to watch them while we went out for a couple of hours. Jax still looked confused. So, Anh asked, "You remember Sara, right, buddy?" Jax nodded and exclaimed, "Yes, but Sara isn't good with kids!" Yikes! What?!?
For a few seconds, I was the one that was confused. Then, it dawned on me that the first time Jax met Sara we were treating her dinner after agreeing to work an expo for us on a Saturday. At dinner, we had asked her whether she ever worked as a sitter or knew someone trustworthy that did. That was when Sara told us about her roommate, Cassie, but only after explaining to us that she "isn't good with kids" and would be afraid to babysit for us because she's never watched kids and doesn't know what to do. Okay, fair enough. Kids aren't for everyone. I guess that comment weighed a little heavier on Jax than it did on me. Sounds like he'll be sticking close to Cassie this evening!
