That's how I'm feeling. Maybe it's a case of writer's block, but it seems like there's nothing newsworthy to report. You know what they say, no good is sometimes good news. That statement applies to our current life. Things are uneventful, and I'm not complaining!
On Sunday, we got together with Jay, Lisa, and little Miss Hayden for a friendly bowling match. We all played with the pop-up bumpers that prevent you from rolling a gutter ball. In theory, we thought we were helping Jax & Hayden's scores, but the bumpers actually turned out to be more of an aid for the parents. Maybe it was beginners' luck or something. Of course, bowling is one of those sports where you have to question whether it's better to be good or bad? I mean, have you seen the folks that frequent bowling alleys? Just something to think about.
Today, also included some fun. While Jax was at school, Baylor was entertaining his buddies Ethan & Hudson here at the house. Lisa, Whitney, and I once again used our children as an excuse to get together. I'm happy to report a good time was had by all, and the current plan is to make the gathering a standing appointment on the calendar. Since it was such a nice day, we ended up walking over to one of our neighborhood playgrounds so the kids could get some fresh air, and the moms could work off a few calories ahead of swimsuit season which is barreling down on us.
See! Nothing really newworthy, but fun all the same. Hope the report is similar from your neck of the woods.

A Holiday Tradition
Last night, Anh & I took Jax to see The Nutcracker. Not only was it Jax's first time seeing this holiday classic, it was our little friend Hayden's opening night performance as Little Snow. She did a wonderful job, and I think it's probably safe to assume that we'll be seeing Hayden on stage a lot in the future. The girl likes being in the spotlight, and that's not a bad thing.
Jax also seemed to get caught up in the magic. Minutes into the opening scene, he was up & out of seat dancing along. Since we were in the front row, I told him it would be best to leave the performing to those on stage. We wouldn't want to steal anything away from their months of hard work. Luckily, Jax understood and watched the rest of the production with remarkable restraint.
The show did deviate a bit from the classic story because it included some religious content. The director's version incorporated the Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus which seemed a bit out of place when you consider the fact that at Christmas we're celebrating the birth of Jesus. So, I'm not really sure I appreciated the artistic liberties that the director took with the production. If they wanted to incorporate the story of Jesus, I think focusing on the Nativity would have been a better choice. Oh well! I guess the arts are meant to stir controversy on occasion.
The important thing is that the production, liberties included, gave each of the performers a chance to showcase their talents for their friends and family, and therefore, it was a great opening night! Congratulations on a job well done, Hayden!

Arg!!!
Ahoy, matie! I'm going to back-track just a bit so I can share some cute pictures of the kids from Pirate Fest 2009. It was a beautiful Fall day, except with summer time temperatures. Actually, it was pretty funny to see most of the crowd decked out in their Fall fashions. They looked good, but hot! We went the more sensible route and opted for t-shirts & shorts.
Hudson & Hayden joined us for the festivities, and as usual, Hudson was happy just to be a part of the fun. He didn't mind being strapped in his stroller. Baylor wasn't as thrilled with the arrangement.

Baylor didn't like watching from the sidelines as Jax & Hayden performed death-defying feats on the trampolines. He wanted to get in on the action! Soon, buddy. Your big brother was only 2 the first time he "jumped like Spiderman." You've still got a few months before I'll let you take that leap.
They made it look so easy! Something tells me it's not. One of these days, I'll give it a shot too.

Hudson got his adrenaline rush in a more traditional way, the swings. Again, Baylor wasn't happy to settle for this safer alternative. He didn't want to participate in "little kid" activities, but he was happy to eat most of Hudson's snacks while he waited for us to move on the next activity.

Even seeing big brother Jax on the swings wasn't enough to convince Baylor to take part. Oh well. His loss!
Our final stop was the only part of the day that Baylor truly enjoyed. Yummy frozen yogurt never disappoints. The girl behind the counter even treated Baylor to his own mini cup topped with a raspberry. Boy, did he feel special!

Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My
Actually, our zoo doesn't have tigers and bears, but we did see some lions. We spent Sunday at the zoo with our friends, Jay and Lisa. Oh, and of course the kids, Hayden and Hudson, were there too. Makes sense, right? Because we all know these play dates are for the kids, not the parents.
First stop, Stingray Bay where you can get up close and personal with stingrays. Oh, and Jay took that a little literal. No one is exactly sure what happened, but as he was feeding one of the stingrays a chunk of fish, it got VERY upset and started wildly flapping it's wings. As a result, everyone was treated to a nice splash of salt water, and we were left wondering, just what was Jay doing under the water's surface? Just kidding! Jay swears he simply held onto the chunk of bait a little too long, and the stingray didn't appreciate that.
After that excitement, we made our way towards some of the more traditional exhibits. Along the way, Hayden decided she would adopt Baylor as her 2nd little brother. Enjoy it while it lasts, Baylor. Eventually, Hudson is going to be up and out of that stroller too, and he's not going to appreciate you making the moves on his sister.
A trip to the zoo wouldn't be complete without feeding the giraffes. I didn't catch this fella's name, but he's the biggest giraffe we've fed to date. He was a gentle giant though, very friendly and hungry! He couldn't get enough of the lettuce leaves being handed out that day.
Everyone was amazed by the length of his tongue. The boys laughed when the giraffe licked Hayden's hand, but that was too much contact for her. After that little experience, Hayden refused to feed the giraffe. She wasn't going to risk a second lick by the giant tongue. I can't really say I blame her. The tongue was longer than her arm!
After washing up, we stopped to enjoy some the scenery and snapped a few pictures.
Hudson was all smiles for the camera. He may be little, but give him time, he's going to be running the show one of these days.
Oh, here's a rare event I captured...Elephants and a monkey playing together.
Then, we lost our minds and served the kids snowballs laced with crack. Yeah, looks like he really needed more sugar!
The brilliance continued. After pumping them up on sugar, we put them on the carousel where they could get dizzy. I'm sure it's hard to believe, but the kids exited the ride no worse for the wear.
At that point, we decided we should probably feed the kids something besides sugar and took a break for lunch. After refueling we set out for the most anticipated stop of the day, the splash park. Sadly, within a matter of minutes, Hudson went from this...
to this. Poor little guy missed out on the grand finale. Oh well, there will be plenty of future opportunities.
The other three made the most of the experience, but in a relatively short amount of time, they were ready to move on to the playground. I was able to get a few cute pictures before the ADD kicked in and forced us to move on.

Busy, Busy, Busy (Continued)
Sunday was even more action packed. We hugged Aunt Emily good-bye, and then, headed out the door a superbly elaborate 1-year old birthday party. If not for the Disney-themed decor, you might have thought you were at a wedding! Christopher is one lucky boy.
There was a huge Lebanese buffet prepared entirely by the guest of honor's Lebanese grandma. Plus, there was a 2nd buffet specifically for the kids with more traditional party fare. BUT, the edible offering didn't end there! Nope, there was a cake table, a chocolate fountain, AND a coffee bar that was practically a Starbucks. When you add all that to: the theme decor, 2 magician clowns, a pinata, what seemed like hundreds of balloons, endless amounts of candy and party favors, and dozens of children hopped-up on the endless candy, you've got the makings of one CRAZY birthday party! I can't wait to see what they do when he turns 2 or 16!
After that insanity (I mean that in the best possible way.), we met up with Jay, Lisa, and the kids for pizza. Needless to say, we pretty much blew the diet on Sunday. Oh well! You've got to live a little sometimes. Jax was super excited to see Hayden. It's been a while since they've had a chance to play together. Lisa and I have been selfishly planning playdates for Hudson and Baylor while Jax and Hayden are in school. Sometimes it's just easier for mommies to play when there are less children to supervise, and occasionally, mommies deserve a playdate too!
Speaking of playdates, Baylor had another one today. He's got quite the busy schedule these days. His social calendar fills up faster than mine, it seems! Anyway...Today, Baylor met up with 1-year old Ethan, and they had the best time playing together. Not only are they close in age, they are almost the same size, and they have a similar laid back personalities. I think they're a good match. That's a huge plus for the 2 mommies that use them as an excuse to hang out.

Photo Craziness From the Weekend
This weekend, we went photo crazy! I think it's safe to blame our behavior on a good friend, Farid. He flew down for a quick visit this weekend ,and that pretty much sent us into tourist mode with the camera. Actually, it's nice when that happens. Not only do we end up with new family photos, we are forced to take a break from our usual routine and enjoy our little beach town. Too often we get caught up in same ol' day-to-day activities.
On Saturday, Anh and Jax treated Farid to a whirlwind tour of the sights around town. Then that night, we met up with Jay, Lisa, and the kids to celebrate Jay's birthday. It was nice. We ate at a popular seafood restaurant on the Intercoastal that we had all been wanting to try, and I now understand why it's such a big hit with the locals. We had driven past several times, but were scared off by the ridiculously packed parking lot. Factor in a less than impressive exterior, and we just didn't see what all the fuss was about.
Well, behind that shabby exterior is a lovely outdoor patio, shaded by a beautiful canopy of old oak trees, overlooking the Intercoastal. There's even a section of beach complete with a tire swing. Turns out, the food is yummy too. I think it's safe to say that we'll become regulars, along with the rest of the city!

Sunday morning, we decided to treat ourselves to another nice meal and headed up to our clubhouse for brunch. After all, it just wouldn't be right to send Farid off to the airport on an empty stomach. Afterwards, we lingered on the lawn overlooking the golf course and once again the cameras were brought out to document the lovely surroundings. I can't believe we didn't do this sooner, considering that we live here.

I don't know whether Anh was determined to give Farid the complete neighborhood tour or whether they just wanted to walk off a little of our very filling brunch, but that afternoon, the boys took a stroll along the boardwalk.

We joked with Farid throughout the visit about him being the "location scout" for his wife and the kids. If he reports back favorably, then they will book a trip for the entire family. Hopefully, we receive high marks, and we'll see them all again soon. It was so nice having a chance to catch up.
