Memorial Day Mayhem

Florida boys through & through! Oh yeah, I'm not looking forward to the dating years!
We're incredibly lucky to live at the beach, but that said, we really don't enjoy the sand & surf as often as one might expect. We lead a busy life and downtime on the beach seems to fall pretty low on the priority totem pole. That's why we look forward to holiday weekends. We can cast the usual responsibilities to the side, and enjoy a fabulous beach getaway without the hassle of traveling! Priceless!
Jaxon continues to work on his surfing skills. That should easily attract the ladies in the future.
Baylor prefers to stay a little closer to shore, but can put on quite a show with his boogie board.

Grant would be completely happy to never even get wet! Something tells me that will change!
Surf's up!
You want me to do what? No thanks, I'll just watch.
Staying hydrated! It's very important!
A little mid-day siesta!

With the sun setting, we reflected on our wonderful day and life's many blessings. Life is good!

Color Me Rad

At some point a race organizer had the thought, "Running a 5K is too easy. Wouldn't it be fun to shoot racers with color bombs as they make their way down the course?" Yeah...I'm not even sure how I got recruited for this madness? Oh right, silly Aunt Kelly came up with the idea and wanted to take Jaxon. I was worried she'd lose track of him and volunteered to tag along. Stupid me! Here we are pre-race, all nice & clean.

Now, the afters! Truth be told, I had a blast and would do it again in a heartbeat!

Character Counts

When debating what to do on a beautiful, balmy February day, playing in a giant hamster ball isn't the first thing that comes to mind. However, sometimes it's best to embrace the unexpected! Participating in the inaugural 3K/6K Character Counts race benefiting our new school, has been on the calendar for weeks. We just didn't realize it would become a full-day affair with such a wide variety of activities. First up, the hamster wheels. The boys made it look easy. I didn't dare try it myself. I need to be able to show my face around the school for several more years.

Now, hold on to your stomachs. Booger Wars was up next! Similar to football, but you throw beanbag boogers to your team mates that must be crammed up your goal's nostril. Oh yes, it was delightful to watch. It's probably best that Booger Wars followed the hamster balls. I would hate to imagine the reverse. The inside of the hamster ball could get messy after all that visual imagery.
By comparison, laser tag seemed mild! The boys ran themselves silly, and I worried they wouldn't have any gas left for the actual race.

The turnout was impressive. It's great to know that we have so many active and involved families supporting our new school. It really demonstrates that we have a caring network of parents that appreciate what an asset the school is for our children and the community as a whole.
We elected to run the 3K. I used the excuse of the children not being able to complete a 6K, but I'm fairly certain I would have been the one laying down in the middle of the road crying in misery had we decided to attempt the 6K.  That distance will have to remain a bucket list item for now. One day...
The boys really gave it their all. We gave Jaxon permission to run ahead of us rather than crush his competitive spirit by forcing him to wait for us slow pokes. Aunt Kelly was supposed to try to keep him within her eyesight, but even she proved to be no match for our little speed demon. Baylor really pushed himself through to the finish line. At times, he was definitely dragging, but the strategic placement of cute cheerleaders really worked to our advantage. Just when we would resign ourselves to carrying Grant so we could load Baylor into the stroller, cheerleaders would magically appear on the sidelines and boost Baylor's spirit. Yep, he's all boy!

Jaxon crossed the finish line and greeted us with a smug grin as we finally jogged his way a good 10+ minutes later.  What can I say? We can only do better in the future. Well, unless we decide to sit and have a picnic lunch along the way.

In the end, we were all still smiling! Well, until we realized we still had a long walk home!

Jumping for Joy

From celebrating ONE to celebrating EIGHT! At least, it was a completely different child! Although, I swear time is passing so quickly that it might as well have been Jaxon's first. When I asked Jaxon what he might like to do with his buddies on his special day, the decision was easy...REBOUNDERZ, our new trampoline arena!
The boys were able to bounce themselves silly for over an hour, and they still had loads of energy! I wish I could bottle that magic!

Although, their energy levels barely dropped, the boys certainly built up an appetite. Back to the house for refreshments & cake!!!

Oh, and presents!!! Can't forget the presents!
Happy Birthday, Jaxon! You're an incredible kid and a son that makes us proud every day. You are going to grow up to do amazing things with that heart of pure gold!

Par-Tee

I certainly hope the boys never accuse us of having a favorite child. It's that concern that rarely causes me to deviate from past routines and traditions, but in this case, I just had to. We didn't throw true birthday parties for Jaxon or Baylor until they turned five years old. Why? They have always had every toy they could ever want or need thanks to Grandfather, and honestly, birthday parties are a lot of work! That doesn't mean we didn't celebrate the boys' special days. We always have family parties at home, and on most birthdays, we've taken treats to school to share with their classmates. We just never put ourselves through the stress of a birthday party with friends before the age of five.

Well...until now! Grant lucked out. He's the baby which means he's the last shot. I figured, why not celebrate the baby turning one? It is a big deal. We're saying farewell to babies and hello to toddlers a.k.a. "big boys!" I decided on a golf theme since we have a beautiful clubhouse in the neighborhood, and I also knew Jaxon & Baylor would enjoy the theme.  Grant is only one. He certainly didn't care as long as there was cake!

So, I guess we've officially ventured on to a slippery slope. One where we must tread carefully or risk creating a sibling rivalry.  Luckily, our sweet boys seem to operate with a team mentality. Let's hope it stays that way!
