For now, Jax will have to get his adrenaline fix during the Daytona 500 race weekend. He has been counting down the days, and finally this weekend it was time to head South with Grandfather for some racing action. The festivities were definitely scaled back this year, a sign that Nascar and race sponsors are struggling in the tough economic times. Attendance was up though. It was reported that the events were sold out. So, I guess that's a good sign for next year.

A Need For Speed
The boy is an adrenaline junkie, and the sooner I accept it, the better. I fear the day he gets his learner's permit or even worse, the driver's license that will allow him to cruise the streets unsupervised. I see many "donations" to the sheriffs' associations and state trooper foundations in my future.

While there were fewer attractions for the kids this year, Jax did finally meet the height requirements for the simulators. He was able to take part in a virtual race against 6 other drivers. Grandfather placed 2nd, and Jax shocked everyone with his 4th place finish. Maybe racing is in his future? He was doing 3-point turns in his battery-operated car at the age of 2. Surely that's a sign he's got some talent?

Jax's face was plastered with an ear-to-ear grin as he explored street-legal hot rods and posed with the team cars. I don't think he could have been happier.

And, of course, Anh had to get one of Jax with Dale Jr.'s car. It's a good thing Jr. ended up taking 2nd in the 500 the next day. Anh is a fair-weather fan and was threatening to abandon Jr. if he couldn't step up his performance this season.

That's no recruiter. He is an Air Force Air Combat Controller They go in before the Seals and Green Berets. Jax's 2nd cousin (Grandfather's sister's son)is a ACC with the bronze star for service in Afganistan, Ashley Spurlin. He googles with two postings. Ashley is currently a Drill Instructor at Keesler AFB in Biloxie, MS for new combat controllers.
His official title may not be "recruiter," but when you're at an event like the Daytona 500 manning aN Air Force exhibit, then you're essentially operating as a recruiter.
